Leadership is... the ability to empower people from all walks of life to be a better version of themselves. It is being your best self to enable others to be their best selves. Leadership is knowing when to be a follower and when to step up and lead.
Leadership in Life... As a freshman in college I found it hard to fit in and make friends. I was too nervous to join clubs, too awkward to go to parties, and too self-conscious to talk to people in my classes. During the winter break I was unsure I wanted to go back because it wasn't a happy place for me. After a long talk with my family, they convinced me to try again. The second semester was exponentially better, but I still didn't feel like I had found my place at my new home. So I decided when I started my sophomore year I would join Greek life in effort to find my home away from home. That's when I discovered Alpha Sigma Tau. Not only did I fit in with the other women, I felt a sense of purpose and an even greater sense of joy. I knew that I could find my place and grow in this organization. A little over a year later I have done just that. I found some of the best friends I've ever had, a new family to call my own, and a support system that's there no matter what. Not only did I find my place, I found the growth I needed. Alpha Sigma Tau has taught me how to stern yet loving, how to present a goal and help a large group achieve it, and more importantly it has taught me patience. Being on the executive board for over 80 young women has been challenging, but so incredibly rewarding in growth and leadership skills.
Advice… Never be afraid to stand up for what you believe in and no matter how hard always do the right thing. Whether it's the right thing for yourself, for a friend, or for the planet.
